Keep lightweight references (file paths, stored queries, links) in context and load the data with tools only when it's needed.

Instead of pre-loading everything up front, the agent holds identifiers and pulls content at runtime, the way people use file systems and bookmarks. Anthropic recommends pairing it with some up-front retrieval for speed.
